OU-Texas in Austin This Weekend

First Pitch

• Oklahoma (19-19, 4-8 Big 12) travels to Austin for a Red River RIvalry Big 12 conference series against No. 14 Texas (27-12, 8-4 Big 12) this weekend at Disch-Falk Field. Game times are set for 7 p.m. Friday, 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
• Oklahoma is celebrating its 125th anniversary season in 2023. The program was established in 1898, and OU has competed in 118 seasons since (including 2023).

• The games will be televised on Longhorn Network, with Keith Moreland and Greg Swindell on the call.

Series History

• Oklahoma and Texas have met 223 times on the diamond. Texas leads the series 156-65-2. 
• The Sooners and Longhorns split four games last season. Texas won two of three during the regular season series (the Friday and Sunday games) and Oklahoma won the Big 12 Championship final 8-1 to claim its third Big 12 tournament crown.
• Two of the last three regular season series between OU and UT were played in Austin (the series scheduled for Norman in 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Oklahoma won two of three games during the 2019 series in Austin. Texas won three of four in 2021, including one during the Big 12 conference tournament.
• Texas leads the all-time series in Austin, 107-39-2. Eighty of the 89 meetings between the Sooners and Longhorns from 1941-88 were played in Austin. The other nine were played in Omaha (four games from 1972-75), Arlington (three games in 1976), Denver (one game in 1947) and Oklahoma City (one game in 1985.  

Leading Off

• Oklahoma is in its sixth season under the direction of head coach Skip Johnson (including the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson, who spent the 2017 season on staff as an assistant coach, has led the Sooners to a 176-123 record, two NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2022 Big 12 tournament championship and the 2022 College World Series finals since taking over as head coach prior to the 2018 season.
• Oklahoma ranks eighth nationally and third in the Big 12 with its 228 walks, and ranks 17th nationally and fourth in the Big 12 with its 83 stolen bases. OU batters have also been hit by a pitch 49 times, totaling 277 free passes (an average of 7.3 free passes per game).
• The Sooners also rank third nationally with their 29 sacrifice flies (second in the Big 12 to nation-leading 32 by Texas Tech) and 23rd nationally with 13 triples (second in Big 12; league leader Texas Tech has 17 triples).
• Junior right fielder Bryce Madron has registered a nation-leading 42 walks in his 38 games. He also ranks seventh nationally and second in the Big 12 by averaging 1.1 walks per contest. Freshman catcher Easton Carmichael ranks second in the Big 12, tied for 18th nationally and ranks second among catchers with his four triples. Junior infielder Anthony Mackenzie ranks 33rd nationally and third in the Big 12 with his 19 stolen bases (in 22 attempts). Junior Carter Campbell is fifth nationally and first in the Big 12 with his 23 pitching appearances (national leader has made 25 appearances). 
• Mackenzie and Madron have each reached base in 29 straight contests. Carmichael and junior infielder Dakota Harris  lead the team with 12 multiple-hit games, Mackenzie and Madron each have 11 multiple-hit games, and sophomore John Spikerman and freshman Rocco Garza-Gongora each have 10. Carmichael leads the team with 10 multiple-RBI games while Harris has nine and sophomore second baseman Jackson Nicklaus has eight.
• The Sooners have registered 83 stolen bases in 105 attempts (79%) through 38 games this season. Last year, OU registered 145 steals, the most by an Oklahoma club since 1989 (168 steals).
• Carmichael leads the team with 34 RBIs and is batting .325 (39 for 120). He has thrown out seven baserunners stealing. Mackenzie is batting .320 (48 for 150) and leads the team with 37 runs scored. 
• Fourth-year junior outfielder Kendall Pettis is batting .330 (32 for 97) with 31 runs scored, five doubles, 22 walks and 12 stolen bases. He has hit .387 (24 for 62) with 18 runs, four doubles, a triple, a home run and seven steals in his last 17 games (16 starts) since March 19.
• Harris leads the Sooners with a .360 batting average (36 for 100), and has eight doubles, five homers and 31 RBIs in 24 games, despite missing 14 games with an injury. Madron (eight doubles, one triple, seven homers) lead OU with 16 extra base hits and Nicklaus (six doubles, three triples, six homers) has 15 extra base hits. Spikerman has 13 extra base hits (11 doubles, one triple, one homer).
