ARLINGTON, Texas - The Oklahoma men's tennis team swept UT Arlington 4-0 on Thursday afternoon for its final non-conference match.
The Sooners opened the match with a clinched doubles point, despite dropping the top court to the Mavericks. UT Arlington's Solano Caffarena and Anton Shepp claimed the No. 1 spot over Alex Martinez and Justin Schlageter, 6-3. OU answered with a court-two win by Jordan Hasson and Siphos Montsi against Santiago Giamichelle and Dante Teramo, 6-3.
To clinch the opening point, Luis Alvarez and Nathan Han took court three 7-6 (3) over Lachlan Robertson and Joan Torres Espinosa.
Martinez got it started in singles for OU, taking the top court 6-0, 6-1 over Shepp. Han followed it up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Torres Espinosa on court five. To secure the victory, Schlageter claimed court four over Robertson, 6-4, 6-4.
When play was halted, Hasson was up 7-5, 2-4 on court two with Giamichelle, Montsi was down 6-4, 5-4 to Caffarena on court three and AlvarezĀ was up 7-5, 3-1 on Teramo at the No. 6 spot.
The Sooners will kickoff Big 12 play on the road with TCU on Friday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. CT in Fort Worth, Texas, and Texas on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. CT in Austin, Texas.
