Sooners Host No. 7 Stanford at L. Dale Mitchell Park

March 29, 2023 | Baseball

First Pitch

• Oklahoma (13-12) returns home to the friendly confines of L. Dale Mitchell Park this weekend for a four-game non-conference series against No. 7 Stanford (16-5). Game times are 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
• Stanford is the first top-10 non-conference opponent to visit Mitchell Park since 2012, when OU defeated No. 9 Arkansas 4-0 in a midweek contest.
• This series is a matchup of two teams that played in the 2022 College World Series. The Sooners reached the CWS finals, while the Cardinal made its second straight trip to Omaha.
• Oklahoma is celebrating its 125th anniversary season in 2023. The program was established in 1898, and OU has competed in 118 seasons since (including 2023).

Tickets/Promotions

• Tickets are available via SoonerSports.com. Fans can purchase a ticket for the four-game series for only $35. Mini plans and flex packages are available for all remaining home games.
• The L. Dale Mitchell Park ticket office and entrance gates will open two hours prior to the scheduled game time. The ticket office and will call windows are located behind home plate, along W. Imhoff Rd.

Leading Off

• Oklahoma is in its sixth season under the direction of head coach Skip Johnson (including the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson, who spent the 2017 season on staff as an assistant coach, has led the Sooners to a 170-116 record, two NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2022 Big 12 tournament championship and the 2022 College World Series finals since taking over as head coach prior to the 2018 season.
• Oklahoma ranks 14th nationally and third in the Big 12 with its 57 stolen bases. OU also ranks 12th nationally (third in the Big 12) with its 152 walks.
• Junior right fielder Bryce Madron has registered a nation-leading 33 walks in the season's first 25 games. Freshman catcher Easton Carmichael leads the Big 12, is tied for sixth nationally and leads all catchers with his four triples. Junior first baseman Anthony Mackenzie ranks 22nd nationally and third in the Big 12 with his 15 stolen bases (in 16 attempts).

Junior shortstop Dakota Harris leads the Sooners with a .386 batting average (32 for 83), 10 extra base hits (six doubles, four homers) and has driven in 27 runs.

• The Sooners defeated the Cardinal 10-4 in the 1994 NCAA Central Regional at Austin, Texas. Stanford won the first meeting between the schools 12-3 in 1971 (played in Riverside, Calif.), and won 5-1 in a midweek contest at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City in 1999

#CHAOUS

• The Sooners have registered 57 stolen bases in 72 attempts (79%) through the first 25 games of the season, which is about the same as its pace through 25 games of the 2022 season (58 for 73). Last year, OU registered 145 steals, the most by an Oklahoma club since 1989 (168 steals).
Anthony Mackenzie leads the Sooners and ranks 22nd nationally with his 15 steals (in 16 attempts). John Spikerman is second on the team with 11 steals (11 for 13) and Kendall Pettis is 8 for 11 in stolen bases. Eleven players have stolen at least one base this season and six players have notched at leas four stolen bases.
• Mackenzie has stolen three bases in a game twice this season (vs. Abilene Christian on Feb. 22 and vs. Rider on Feb. 25). On 11 occasions, an OU player has stolen at least two bases in a game. Oklahoma registered a season-high eight steals against Rider on Feb. 25 and has stolen at least three bases seven times this season.
• #CHAOUS is not only about stealing bases, but also about being aggressive on offense and putting pressure on the defense. While Oklahoma ranks 14th nationally in steals (57) and steals per game (2.3), it also ranks 12th nationally in walks (152) and batters have been hit by a pitch 32 times. The Sooners also have 11 sacrifice bunts and 18 sacrifice flies (which ranks ninth in the country). OU opponents have committed 29 errors (.969 fielding percentage).
