Harris Earns Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Honor

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma junior shortstop Dakota Harris was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week after batting .500 with five RBIs in Oklahoma's series win over No. 11 TCU last weekend, the conference office announced Monday.
Harris went 5 for 10 at the plate in Oklahoma's weekend series victory. He also homered, doubled and walked three times. The Land O' Lakes, Fla., product and Polk State College transfer hit a three-run home run, going 2 for 3 with four RBIs on Friday, and singled and drove in a run in OU's 7-5 series-clinching comeback win on Sunday. He also singled and doubled in Saturday's 3-1 victory. In four games last week, Harris batted .385 while playing errorless in the field.
This is the first weekly Big 12 award for Harris and Oklahoma's second conference weekly award of the season. Easton Carmichael won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on March 13.
Oklahoma plays host to Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners then travel to Manhattan, Kan., for a Big 12 conference series at Kansas State Friday through Sunday.
