WACO, Texas – A 3-pointer from the all-time NCAA 3-point leader Taylor Robertson with 14.3 left in regulation pushed the game into overtime. In the extra frame, No. 16 Oklahoma pulled away from Baylor to win 98-92 and become the first Big 12 team to win back-to-back games in Waco since 2009-10.
The Sooners (19-4, 9-3 Big 12) trailed for over 39 minutes of play, but Robertson's late trey and Ana Llanusa's eight points in overtime powered the Crimson and Cream over the Bears (16-7, 7-4 Big 12) and into solo second place in the Big 12 standings, a half-game back of Texas.
"That was a great game for women's basketball," head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "Our team was down all night and just kept fighting, and I'm so proud of them. We just don't have any quit in us, and tonight that showed against a really, really good Baylor team."
Both teams traded buckets through the first half of the opening quarter, but the Bears opened up a lead as the frame went on and won the quarter 22-18. The Bears' lead extended to 12 in the first half, 46-34, putting the Sooners in a prime position to win their 11th game under Baranczyk when down double digits. An 8-0 run to close the half cut the Baylor lead to just four at the break. The Bears opened their lead back to 10 points early in the second half, but the Sooners kept it within striking distance as an Ana Llanusa 3-pointer at the 6:12 mark of the third quarter made it 54-51 Bears. But again, the Sooners found themselves in a hole entering the fourth quarter down 66-58. With 5:19 left in the game, Oklahoma found itself down 75-63 but then found one last dose of Sooner Magic. Liz Scott scored the Sooners' next seven points and cut the lead to six with 3:41 remaining.
Oklahoma kept chipping away until it faced a five-point deficit with 26 seconds left on the clock. A stop on the defensive end led to a Nevaeh Tot layup, followed by an Ana Llanusa steal on the Baylor inbound. Llanusa drove the baseline and pulled a pair of Baylor defenders, leaving Robertson wide open outside the 3-point line. Robertson caught Llanusa's pass and promptly buried the game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime, 83-83. In the overtime period, Llanusa buried a 3-pointer to start an OU run that saw Baranczyk's team pull away, as the redshirt senior from Choctaw, Okla., scored eight points in the OT period to claim the 98-92 Sooner win.
Ana Llanusa and Skylar Vann both scored 20 points in the win. Vann added six rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Llanusa tallied five rebounds and five assists. Taylor Robertson finished with 14 points, including 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Madi Williams narrowly missed a double-double by posting nine points with 10 rebounds and four assists. Nevaeh Tot poured in 13 points with five assists, while Liz Scott scored 11 points with eight rebounds.
It was the 11th double-digit comeback of the Baranczyk era, three of which have now come vs. the Bears. The Sooners improved to 3-0 in overtime games under Baranczyk, and have now scored 90 points in the team's last four Big 12 wins. With her 140th career start tonight, Taylor Robertson tied Danielle Robinson's Oklahoma record for career starts.
The Sooners head to Manhattan, Kan., to match up with Kansas State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.
