MANHATTAN, Kan. – Liz Scott finished with 20 points and eight rebounds as No. 16/13 Oklahoma cruised to a road win, 85-68, at Kansas State on Sunday afternoon.
The Sooners (20-4, 10-3 Big 12) outscored the Wildcats by a combined 19 points in the second and third quarters to earn their fourth win in a row as they remain one game back of first-place Texas in the Big 12 standings.
"We were pretty good for the most part I thought," head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "I wish we didn't foul so much, but I have to give a lot of credit to K-State. They were aggressive and obviously have a really good team. Liz (Scott) was excellent for us all day long, and I thought that Aubrey (Joens) really gave us a spark off the bench."
Tied 14-14 at the 3:10 mark of the first quarter, Oklahoma closed the frame on a 6-1 run to post a 20-15 lead after 10 minutes. However, it was an 11-3 run from the Sooners to open the second quarter that pushed Oklahoma in front for good, as OU outscored Kansas State (14-11, 3-9 Big 12) 21-10 in the second quarter behind one of its strongest defensive halves of the season. The Oklahoma lead grew to 24 points after the third frame before the 'Cats pulled with 15 points as the Sooners finished off the 17-point win, the largest margin of an OU victory in Manhattan in the Big 12 era.
Scott led the way with a season-high 20 points, eight rebounds and one assist in the win. Madi Williams finished 8-of-10 shooting en route to 17 points with five assists and four rebounds. Aubrey Joens was a spark plug off the bench, scoring all 11 of her points in the third quarter, finishing a perfect 3-of-3 from deep. Ana Llanusa moved into fourth all-time in 3-pointers at Oklahoma by sinking a pair of treys to finish with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Taylor Robertson passed Danielle Robinson for most starts in Oklahoma history with 141 on Sunday.
The Sooners shot 53% from the floor and held K-State to just 19-of-59 (32.2%) shooting, as OU improved to 38-1 under Baranczyk when outshooting its opponent. Oklahoma outrebounded K-State 43-20, as the Sooners have outrebounded their opponents in 28 of their last 33 games, dating back to last season. Powered by 27 assists, the Sooners' 85 points were the most in Manhattan in the Big 12 era.
Oklahoma returns to Norman on Wednesday for a matchup with Texas Tech (16-9, 4-8 Big 12) at Lloyd Noble Center. The tip is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+ as the Sooners will host their annual Pink Game.
