Oklahoma fell 21-12 to No. 15 North Dakota State on Friday night.
The Sooners (8-7, 1-5 Big 12) won three of the final five bouts but the Bison (11-2, 6-1 Big 12) secured the dual victory after a loss in the 133-pound bout.
Claiming the advantage early in the 174-pound bout with a takedown in the first 30 seconds, No. 23 Tate Picklo put the Sooners on the board with a 7-4 decision over Gaven Sax.Ā
At 285 pounds, No. 14 Josh Heindselman fought back in a tiebreaker thriller to win 4-2. With less than 15 seconds left in TB-1, Heindselman took down Juan Mora to cut OU's deficit to 18-6.
Following Heindselman, No. 19 Joey Prata jumped out to a 3-0 lead and defended his advantage over Carlos Negrete Jr. to win by a 3-2 decision.
No. 7 Mosha Schwartz ended the match with a 5-2 decision win over No. 23 Dylan Droegemueller at 141 pounds. Schwartz extended his win streak to 11, including four over top-25 opponents.
In a top-20 clash, No. 20 Mitch Moore fell to No. 16 Kellyn March 4-0 at 149 pounds. In the 157-pound bout, No. 2 Jared Franek topped Jacob Butler 6-2. No. 16 Gerrit Nijenhuis dropped the 165-pound bout to No. 8 Michael Caliendo 10-5. At 197 pounds, Keegan Moore fell via pin to No. 27 DJ Parker at the 2:58 mark. Getting a takedown at the buzzer, Carson Berryhill fell just short to No. 11 Owen Pentz 6-5 in the 197-pound match. At 133 pounds, No. 27 Wyatt Henson slipped to McGwire Midriff 10-3.
OU will stay on the road to face No. 16 South Dakota State at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 12. The contest will be televised on FloWrestling.
