NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped its Friday night match to No. 22 Houston, 25-19, 25-22, 25-13.
Alexis Shelton notched her 20th game with double-digit kills, finishing with 10 on the night. Taylor Preston added six, while Kelsey Carrington, Hannah Pfiffner and Lydia Burts all tallied four.
Payton Chamberlain notched 25 assists and 5 digs to go with a pair of blocks. Callie Kemohah chipped in 19 digs on the night.
Houston took a five-point lead early in the first, 11-6, leading to a Sooners timeout. The Sooners fought off four set points, but ultimately dropped the set, 25-19.
The Cougars jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set. OU fought to keep the set close, using a run to get within four at 22-18. A block from Carrington and Preston made it a two-point game at 22-20 and the Sooners fought off two set points to make it 24-22 before Houston closed out the set, 25-22.
The Sooners kept it close to start the third set, pulling within one at 9-8. The Cougars used a 5-0 run to extend their lead and led 15-10 at the media timeout. Houston took the final set 25-13.
OU will head to Cincinnati for a two-game series, Nov. 17-18. The Sooners will wrap up road games on Nov. 22 at Texas Tech.
