ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 4 Oklahoma women's tennis team fell to No. 20 Michigan 5-2 on Friday for their first loss of the season.
The Sooners came out in a dominant force at the top court in doubles. Carmen and Ivana Corley took down the No. 2 pair in the nation of Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller, 6-4, to give OU only one more court to secure the opening point.
The No. 2 court battled for the win, but Michigan's Julie Fliegner and Lily Jones prevailed 7-5 over No. 22 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth.
With OU and Michigan claiming a court, the doubles point down to court three. After back-and-forth action with ties exchanged, OU's Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman edged Andrea Cerdan and Merri Kelly in the tiebreaker with the 7-6 (3) win.
After an intense fight for the opening point and OU advantage, Michigan answered back with a top-court 6-4, 6-1 win from No. 40 Jaedan Brown over Sleeth. Court six then saw victory from the Wolverines as No. 101 Andrea Cerdan defeated Emma Staker, 7-5, 6-4. Gaining another point, Michigan's No. 103 Gala Mesochoritou took down No. 86 Pisareva on court five, 7-5, 6-3.
To clinch, the Wolverines claimed a court-two 7-6 (4), 6-3 win from No. 81 Kari Miller over No. 91 Carmen Corley. The match continued to play out, with Guzman taking court three with a ranked win over No. 39 Julia Fliegner, 7-6 (4), 7-5. Michigan finished the battle with a 6-7 (5), 6-1, 7-6 (7) win on court five from No. 65 Lily Jones over Garcia Ruiz.
