NORMAN – Oklahoma travels to Stillwater, Okla., for Bedlam against Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. (CT) inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Wednesday's game against the Cowboys will be broadcast on ESPNU with Ted Emrich and King McClure on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.
In Oklahoma's last contest, the Sooners earned the 77-76 victory over West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Lloyd Noble Center. Grant Sherfield tallied a team-high 22 points and dished out five assists. Jalen Hill added 14 points and six rebounds. Milos Uzan pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and tallied 11 points and five assists.
SCOUTING THE COWBOYS
Mike Boynton has compiled a 96-81 record in six seasons in Stillwater. Boynton has led the Cowboys to a 9-8 overall record and 1-4 start to Big 12 play this season. OSU last played on Saturday, Jan. 14 and dropped a Big 12 matchup against the Baylor Bears 74-58. Oklahoma State's earned its lone conference victory on Jan. 2 against West Virginia, beating the Mountaineers 67-60 in Stillwater.
Bryce Thompson averages a team-high 11.5 points and adds 2.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per contest. Avery Anderson III tallies 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per outing. Kalib Boone rounds out the group of double-digit scorers, adding 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Moussa Cisse corrals a team-best 9.9 boards and adds 2.7 blocks per contest. Thompson, Anderson, Boone and John-Michael Wright have started all 17 contests. Cisse has started in 14 games he has appeared in.
Oklahoma State is ranked in the top 50 in four NCAA DI categories. OSU is third in field goal percentage defense (36.9%), 16th in blocks per game (5.6), 25th in 3-point percentage defense (29.2%) and 28th in scoring defense (62.5).
LAST MEETING: OKLAHOMA STATE
The Sooners earned an 66-62 overtime victory against Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 to split the 2022 Bedlam contests. Each program won their respective home game last season.
Tanner Groves tallied a double-double and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Goldwire and Umoja Gibson added 13 points apiece. Jacob Groves and Marvin Johnson each scored 10 points.
Oklahoma concluded the first 20 minutes up 10. OSU chipped away in the second half and tied it with 7.9 seconds left. The Sooners missed a tip in at the buzzer to conclude regulation. With the score tied at 62, Oklahoma State's Moussa Cisse fouled out and sent T. Groves to the line for two. Groves buried both attempts and Johnson sealed the victory with a steal and a layup.
OKLAHOMA VS. WEST VIRGINIA | JAN. 10
Oklahoma men's basketball earned the wire-to-wire 77-76 victory over West Virginia on Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center.
Grant Sherfield recorded a team-high 22 points and finished 9 of 11 from the free throw line. Sherfield recorded his second consecutive 20-plus point contest and has eight such contests this season. Jalen Hill finished perfect from the field (5-5) and from the free throw line (4-4) and tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Milos Uzan wrangled a team-high nine rebounds and tallied 11 points and five assists.
The Sooners didn't make a field goal the remaining 6:14 and finished the game at the free throw line. Sherfield made five free throws during the stretch, Hill made four and Tanner Groves tallied a pair.
RANKING SUMMARY
Oklahoma is ranked in the top 50 in five NCAA Division I categories. OU is 11th in 3-point percentage defense (28.1%), 13th in field goal percentage (49.4%), 15th in effective field goal percentage (56.3%), 39th in scoring defense (63.5 PPG) and 49th in 3-pointer attempts per game (18.9).
Grant Sherfield is 17th in NCAA Division I in 3-point percentage (44.8%) and 32nd in free throw percentage (88.1%), Jalen Hill is 34th in free throw percentage (87.8%) and Tanner Groves is 53rd in defensive rebounds per game (6.2). Sherfield is first in the Big 12 in free throw percentage and Hill is second. Sherfield is third in points (300), minutes per game (33:48) and 3-point percentage (44.8%). Groves is third in rebounds (118) and defensive rebounds per game (6.2). Sherfield is one of four NCAA DI men's basketball player this season to shoot 40% or greater from the field (min. 5 made per game), 40% or greater from three (min. 2.5 made per game) and 85% or greater from the free throw line (min. 2.5 made per game).
Sherfield is 22nd among active NCAA Division I career leaders in assist average (4.8), 22nd in scoring average (15.4), 23rd in assist to turnover ratio (1.9), 27th in assists (483) and 61st in total points (1,560). Groves is 92nd in rebounds (663).
