Women's Tennis Set For Tuesday Clash With Wyoming

NORMAN - After opening the season with back-to-back shutout wins, the No. 4 Oklahoma women's tennis team hosts Wyoming on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

MATCHDAY BASICS

The Sooners' 2023 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center will be open to the public and free of charge. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Free pizza and posters will be provided to the first 100 fans. OU also follows aĀ clear bag policy.

LAST TIME OUT

OU opened the season with a doubleheader on Saturday against Missouri and Tarleton State and grabbed two wins.

To clinch the first doubles point of year, No. 22 Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva claimed court two with the 6-4 victory over Missouri's Gabriela Martinez and Andrea Artimedi. No. 91 Carmen Corley took the Sooners' first ranked win of the season in singles with her 6-2, 6-2 victory against No. 66 Laura Masic on court two. To secure the 7-0 match win, newcomer Julia Garcia Ruiz defeated Andrea Artimedia 6-0, 6-2 on court six.

The Sooners took to the court again to face Tarleton State. In doubles, Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman claimed the OU opening point on court three, taking down Emma Persson and Ximena Morales 6-2. Back in singles, newcomer Romana Cisovska grabbed the 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 6 spot over Clara Sobius to clinch the 4-0 victory for the squad.

WATCHING WYOMING

The Cowgirls opened their season in the Sooner State at the Tulsa Hurricane Invite, where they went 0-3 on the weekend. The squad faced Louisiana Tech for their first match and were handed a 6-1 loss against the Bulldogs. They returned to action on Sunday and fell 5-2 to Omaha and 7-0 to Tulsa.

Wyoming is currently unranked.

OU will travel north to face No. 20 Michigan on Friday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. CT in Ann Arbor, Mich., and No. 17 Ohio State on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. CT. in Columbus, Ohio.
