Sooners to Host West Virginia on Saturday

NORMAN – After a two-game road swing, Oklahoma men's basketball hosts West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 14. Tip is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT at Lloyd Noble Center.
Saturday's game against the Mountaineers will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Chuckie Kempf and Tim Welsh on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.
Oklahoma split its previous two road games. The Sooners beat Texas Tech in Lubbock for the first time since 2015 and dropped a battle against No. 2/2 Kansas on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Against the Jayhawks, Grant Sherfield recorded his seventh 20-plus point contest of the season and finished with a team-high 25 points. Sam Godwin wrangled a team-best seven boards and matched his season high point total (12). Tanner Groves recorded his third double-double of the season, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds. Milos Uzan added 11 points and five rebounds.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
Bob Huggins is in his 16th year as West Virginia head coach and he has compiled a 336-194 record. Huggins has led the Mountaineers to a 10-6 mark in 2022-23. WVU has yet to win a Big 12 contest and last played on Wednesday, Jan. 11, falling to Baylor 83-78 at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
Erik Stevensen leads four Mountaineers that average double-figure points. Stevenson records 13.8 points per game and is shooting 47.1% (80-170) from the field and 40.5% (32-79) from deep. Tre Mitchell wrangles a team-best 6.0 rebounds and adds 13.4 points per outing. Emmitt Matthews Jr. records 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Joe Toussaint averages 10.3 points and 3.1 assists per contest. Stevenson and Jimmy Bell Jr. have started all 16 games for WVU this season. Kedrian Johnson has started all 15 games he has appeared in and averages a team-best 3.6 assists per game.
West Virginia is ranked in the top 50 in five NCAA Division I categories. WVU is 16th in free throw attempts per game (24.2), 17th in free throws made per game (17.0), 40th in turnover margin (3.2), 42nd in bench points per game (27.1) and 47th in turnovers forced per game (15.6).
LAST MEETING: WEST VIRGINIA
The Sooners earned the 2022 series sweep over West Virginia on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, beating the Mountaineers 72-59 on OU's Senior Night.
Tanner Groves recorded his second consecutive double-double and finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Groves recorded 15 points in the second half. Jordan Goldwire scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and dished out a team-high four assists. Jalen Hill added 10 points.
Oklahoma shot 52.9% (27-51) from the field, 40.0% (8-20) from deep and 76.9% (10-13) from the line. The Sooners won the battle in the paint and outscored WVU 36-22.
RANKING SUMMARY

Sherfield is the only NCAA DI men's basketball player this season to shoot 45% or greater from the field (min. 5 made per game), 45% or greater from three (min. 2.5 made per game) and 85% or greater from the free throw line (min. 2.5 made per game). Sherfield is first in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (89.3%). He is third in field goals (94), minutes per game (33:45) and 3-point percentage (45.5%). Groves is third in rebounds (118) and defensive rebounds per game (6.4).
Sherfield is 23rd among active NCAA Division I career leaders in assist average (4.8), 24th in scoring average (15.4), 24th in assist to turnover ratio (1.9), 26th in assists (478) and 61st in total points (1,538). Groves is 87th in rebounds (660).
