Men's Basketball Tops Mataro in Foreign Tour Opener

BARCELONA – Nearly reaching the 100-point plateau, the Oklahoma men's basketball team beat the Mataro Select team 97-41 in its foreign tour opener Thursday night at Poliesportu Municipal de Tiana.

Newcomers Joe Bamisile and Grant Sherfield led the Sooners on the night. Bamisilie tallied a team-high 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field and finished 2-for-3 from deep. Sherfield added 14 points and led Oklahoma with six assists.

Milos Uzan finished 6-for-8 from the field and scored 12 points. He recorded a team-high six rebounds and added five assists and three steals.

The Sooners scored the first 10 points of the contest and never looked back.

After the end of the first quarter, OU held a 17-point advantage (27-10). The Sooners pushed their lead to 33 at the break (50-16) and held Mataro to only six points in the second quarter.

The Sooners came out of the break with the same energy they displayed at the start of the game.

OU rattled off 10 points and continued its lockdown on defense, allowing only five points in the third frame. Oklahoma entered the final quarter with a 79-21 advantage.

The Sooners play their second game in Barcelona Saturday, August 6 at 12:30 p.m. (CT) against the Maresme Select.
