NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 result to No. 12 Arkansas at John Crain Field on Thursday night.
The Sooners (0-2-1) controlled the game early, nearly netting the game's first chance but the Razorbacks (1-1-0) capitalized on multiple counter attacks to build their lead. Multiple Sooners made their college debuts, as head coach Mark Carr gave action to 26 different players.
"Obviously don't like the result," said Carr. "You have to give credit to the opponent and Arkansas, there's a reason they're where they're at. They came in tonight and the goals they scored tonight were punishing.
"They got in front of the goal, and that's things we have to do. We got some chances, had one off the bar, but credit goes to the opponent tonight and it's something we have to learn from. You have to take the lessons and move forward and no bigger opportunity than Bedlam on Sunday."
Arkansas got on the board first in the 10th minute when Jessica De Fillippo snuck behind the Sooners' back line and beat OU keeper Makinzie Short to make it 1-0. The Razorbacks, who entered the season inside the nation's top 10, added three more goals in the first half, including an OU own goal in the 32nd minute.
The second half proved to be more even, with Arkansas adding another goal in the 48th minute before the Sooners would strike. Freshman Chelsea Wagner netted the first goal of her college career in the 55th minute off assists from Kelis Brown and fellow freshman Alexis Washington. Arkansas's Ainsley Erzen added one final goal in the 63rd minute to make it 6-1.
Twelve freshmen saw playing time for the Crimson and Cream Thursday night, including goalkeeper Olivia Ramey who tallied one save and didn't allow a goal over the final 28 minutes of play. Makinzie Short tallied eight saves in the loss.
The Sooners continue their non-conference slate Sunday at 7 p.m. when they take on Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
