NORMAN — Oklahoma men's tennis head coach Nick Crowell has been named the Wilson ITA Central Region Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Monday morning.
Crowell entered his sixth season at the helm for the Sooners and tallied a 15-11 record on the season. The Sooners made their 12th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and fifth under Crowell. OU advanced to the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament with a win over top-25 Louisville. OU expanded its streak of advancing to the NCAA second round or further in each of the last nine seasons. At home, Crowell and his team went 11-3 and swept of six teams. Crowell propelled the Sooners into the top 25 and ranked as high as 19 in the ITA rankings.
In his six seasons at Oklahoma, Crowell has coached the Sooners to a 91-57 record. In the fall, Crowell coached freshman Jordan Hasson to the ITA Central Region Singles Championship title — the Sooners' first since 2015.
Hasson and Mason Beiler earned spots at the ITA Fall Championship in San Diego, Calif., and Beiler advanced to the quarterfinals. Additionally, Crowell coached Beiler to a NCAA Singles Championship appearance in Champagne, Ill., this spring. Crowell coached a pair of Sooners to Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors during the spring season. Hasson and Mark Mandlik picked up 28 singles victories on the season — tying for eighth most in program history.
This honor is the third of Crowell's career, receiving the honor in 2018 and 2019.
