NORMAN – Oklahoma head men's basketball coach
Porter Moser announced the addition of Missouri transfer Yaya Keita to the 2022-23 roster.
"Excited about Yaya and what he brings to the team," said Moser. "He is extremely physical, high-level defender, has a nonstop motor and is an elite rebounder. I know that if he played for Cuonzo Martin, he has extreme toughness. Excited for him to join the OU family."
Keita played one season at Missouri and appeared in 21 games. He averaged 1.2 points and rebounds per game. He made his collegiate debut against Central Michigan and scored six points and added three rebounds.
In eight minutes of action against Utah, Keita nabbed a career-high five offensive rebounds and added two points and a steal. He tallied a career-high two steals against Illinois and led the Tigers in steals three times.
Prior to his time in Columbia, he played for De Smet Jesuit in St. Louis and did not play his senior season due to injury. The 6-foot-9 center was tabbed as the No. 24 center nationally in the class of 2021.
Keita averaged 8.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest as a junior at De Smet. He moved to the United States from Mali before high school.
Keita joins Joe Bamisile (George Washington), Grant Sherfield (Nevada), Luke Northweather, Milos Uzan, Otega Oweh and Benny Schröder as new additions to the 2022-23 roster.
