Sherfield to Join Sooners in 2022-23

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's basketball head coach Porter Moser announced the addition of transfer Grant Sherfield to the 2022-23 roster Friday.

Sherfield, a 6-2 point guard, played at Nevada the last two seasons and started his college career at Wichita State.

"Grant is a dynamic guard who does so many things to help you win," said Moser. "He is elite off ball screens and not only can score at a high clip, but he also makes other players better as he was fourth in the nation in assists last season. He brings experience and versatilely to our program right away. Excited to welcome him to our OU family."

Sherfield started 28 games for Nevada last season and boasted a team-high 35.7 minutes per game. He tallied a team-best 19.1 points per contest and led the Mountain West and finished fourth in the NCAA in assists per game (6.39). The Fort Worth, Texas product added 4.2 rebounds per game and was named to the All-Mountain West Third Team.

Prior to the 2021-22 season, Sherfield was voted the Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year and was selected to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team.

During his sophomore campaign, he was named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and selected to the All-Mountain West First Team. Sherfield led the Wolf Pack in points (18.6), assists (6.08) and steals (1.62) per game. He added 3.7 rebounds per contest and shot 85.5 percent from the free throw line.

He finished his time in Nevada as a two-time USBWA All-District VIII Team honoree and was the 32nd member of the Pack's 1,000-point club.

In his lone season at Wichita State, Sherfield appeared in 30 games and started 12. He averaged 8.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Sherfield stared as a prep senior for Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan., and boasted a team-best 15.6 points per game. Prior to his time at Sunrise Christian Academy, he attended North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas and averaged 24.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game during his junior season.

Sherfield is joined by George Washington transfer Joe Bamisile and incoming freshman Luke Northweather, Milos Uzan, Otega Oweh and Benny Schröder as new additions to the 2022-23 roster.
