NORMAN — Television and/or kickoff information for five of Oklahoma's 2022 football games was announced Thursday, including a date change for the contest at Iowa State.
OU's Sept. 3 season opener vs. UTEP in Norman — the first game of the Brent Venables era — will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT and be televised by FOX, while the Sept. 10 home contest against Kent State will start at 6 p.m. CT and air on SoonerVision on ESPN+.
Oklahoma's third non-conference game, a Sept. 17 tilt at Nebraska, will kick off at 11 a.m. CT and be televised by FOX. It will be the Sooners' first game in Lincoln since 2009.
The annual Red River Showdown between OU and Texas, to be played Oct. 8 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, will air on ABC. A kickoff time is not expected to be announced until late September.
Additionally, the Sooners' road game at Iowa State, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27, has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 29. That contest will be televised by either FOX or FS1. Kickoff time is to be determined.
The Sooners have won all four of their meetings against UTEP (have allowed 28 total points) but have never played Kent State.
Former conference brethren, Oklahoma (50) and Nebraska (46) rank first and second nationally in conference championships. The Sooners or Huskers (or both) won or shared Big Seven/Big Eight titles in 44 of the conferences' 48 years (1948-95) and combined for nine Big 12 championships (seven by OU) before Nebraska departed the league in 2011.
Last year's Oklahoma-Nebraska matchup, a 23-16 OU home win, occurred on the 50-year anniversary of the "Game of the Century" that saw the No. 1-ranked Cornhuskers edge the No. 2 Sooners 35-31 on Nov. 25, 1971. The Thanksgiving Day game in Norman attracted a then-record 55-million-plus television viewers and featured 17 of the 22 first-team All-Big Eight selections that season (nine from NU and eight from OU).
The 2021 meeting was the first between the programs since 2010. The Sooners hold a 46-38-3 series lead against the Huskers.
OU has won 10 of its last 13 meetings against Texas and 16 of its last 23, and owns a 78-7-2 all-time series lead against Iowa State (37-3-1 in Ames).
