Justin Thomas was namedĀ to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 At-Large Team for his performance onĀ the mat and in the classroom this season, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Thomas, who graduated last week with a Master's degree in Adult and Higher Education with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration, boasted a 4.0 GPA for the second straight academic year to become the program's first honoree since 2014. He completed his undergraduate degree in Criminology last May. It is his first all-districtĀ honor, but he is noĀ stranger to academic awards. He has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team five times and the NWCAĀ Scholar All-American Team four times. Ā
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native was a five-year starter for the Sooners at 157 pounds. A four-time Big 12 tournament place-winner and NCAA qualifier, Thomas amassed a 94-52 record against Division I opponents while at Oklahoma.Ā
Thomas is one of 15 student-athletes and the only wrestler to earn the distinction in his district which included schools from Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. He is now eligibleĀ for a spot onĀ the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in June.
