First Pitch

• Oklahoma (17-10, 3-3 Big 12) travels up to Stillwater this weekend for a Big 12 conference Bedlam series against No. 7 Oklahoma State (21-8, 5-1 Big 12) at O'Brate Stadium. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
• The Sooners and Cowboys met only 10 days ago (as of Friday night) at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Okla. OU won that game 7-6 by scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
• The Bedlam series continues a week of in-state games for the Sooners. OU defeated Oral Roberts 7-6 on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners also continue a stretch of 12 games against only Big 12 or in-state opponents: Baylor (March 25-27), OSU (March 29), Texas (April 1-3), ORU (April 5), at OSU (April 8-10) and Texas Tech (April 12). OU posted a 2-2 record last week (March 29-April 3) during its rivalry week against top 10-ranked rivals Oklahoma State and Texas.

• Saturday's game will be televised on ESPNU with Dari Nowkhah and Kyle Peterson on the call. The Friday and Sunday contests will be available via Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with Dave Hunziker and Tom Holliday on the call.

Leading Off

• Through the first seven weeks of the season (27 games), the Sooners are 10-7 against the RPI top 100, including six top-50 wins (6-7) and three top-25 wins (3-4). OU's overall strength of schedule is ranked fourth in the country while its non-conference SOS is ranked sixth nationally.
• Oklahoma is hitting .284 as a team and averaging 6.0 runs, 9.0 hits and 2.7 extra base hits per game (47 doubles, 18 home runs). The pitching staff has compiled a 5.19 ERA, 243 strikeouts to 99 walks and 242 hits in 243.0 innings and has allowed a .257 opponent batting average.
• On the other side, Oklahoma State is hitting .266 as a team. The Cowboys average 6.5 runs, 9.0 hits and 3.0 extra base hits per game (55 doubles, 29 home runs). The pitching staff has compiled a 3.84 ERA, 319 strikeouts to 104 walks and 210 hits in 260.1 innings and has allowed a .221 opponent batting average.
• Oklahoma is in its fifth season under the direction of head coach Skip Johnson (including the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson, who spent the 2017 season on staff as an assistant coach, has led the Sooners to a 129-90 record since taking over as head coach prior to the 2018 season.

Series History

• Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have met 308 times. OSU leads the series 163-145.
• The Sooners won a non-conference midweek contest over the Cowboys (7-6) on March 29 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Okla.
• The teams played each other six times last year; the Sooners won two of three games during the Big 12 conference series, but the Cowboys won both midweek games and the first-round matchup in the Big 12 Championship.
• OU is 1-1 vs. OSU at O'Brate Stadium. The Cowboys won a non-conference midweek game 5-4 in March of last year. The Sooners won the Big 12 series opener 16-2 in Stillwater.
• Oklahoma's Bedlam Big 12 series win last season was its first conference series win over OSU since 2016. The victory in Stillwater was its first since 2014.

Noting the Sooners

• During the first 10 games of the season, Oklahoma scored a total of 35 runs (average of 3.5 per game). The Sooners have scored 128 runs during the last 17 games (7.5 per game). OU has scored at least seven runs in 13 of those 17 games.
• OU is 40 for 51 on stolen base attempts in the last 17 games (average of 2.4 steals per game). Thirteen different players registered at least one steal during that stretch, led by Peyton Graham's seven steals. Tanner Tredaway and Kendall Pettis have each registered six steals over the last 17 contests.
• Blake Robertson leads the Sooners with a .344 batting average (33 for 96), 25 walks and seven doubles (tied). Peyton Graham has team bests of seven home runs, 23 RBIs and 23 runs scored while batting .314 (32 for 102). Tanner Tredaway is batting .307 (31 for 101) with seven doubles, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
• During its 12-game homestand (9-3 record at L. Dale Mitchell Park from March 8-27), Oklahoma turned up the offense. The Sooners batted .336 with 40 extra base hits (average of 3.3 per game), 26 doubles, 12 home runs, 67 walks (5.6 per game) and 29 stolen bases. OU totaled 100 runs (8.3 per game) and registered 133 hits (11.1 per game).
• OU scored at least seven runs in eight straight games between March 8-19. The Sooners had a similar eight-game scoring run between March 9-21 of last season, but this was only the third occurrence in the last 11 years. Oklahoma opened the 2011 season by scoring at least seven runs in nine consecutive games.

Last Time vs. OSU

• The Sooners won the initial Bedlam meeting over this season 7-6 on Tuesday at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Okla., then took a game from Texas during the Big 12 series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
• Against OSU, the Sooners scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to erase a deficit for the second time in the game. Edmond, Okla., product Blake Robertson, who began his college career at Oklahoma State, hit an RBI single to score Peyton Graham and tie the game, and Sebastian Orduno drew a one-out, full-count bases-loaded walk to bring in the winning run in Mustang, Okla., product Mason Lowe.
• Additional freshmen and home state heroes contributed to the win. Redshirt freshman and Norman High School product Cade Horton doubled in OU's first run of the game, scored two runs and earned the victory in his collegiate pitching debut. He came in for the ninth inning and got a strikeout to end the frame. True freshman Jackson Nicklaus went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in his Bedlam debut. Vian, Okla., product Javier Ramos pitched 2.2 innings in relief of starter Braden Carmichael, striking out four batters.

Recapping the Last Week

• Oklahoma won one of three games in the Red River Rivalry against Texas at Globe Life Field, and nearly won the series. The Sooners rebounded from a 7-1 defeat on Friday night with a dramatic 4-2 victory on Saturday, and led 7-1 after six innings in the rubber game on Sunday, before Texas scored 11 straight to win 12-8. OU rebounded with an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
• On Tuesday night, the Sooners jumped out in front of Oral Roberts with two runs in the first inning and another in the second, then tacked on two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh inning. Five OU pitchers held the Golden Eagles to six hits and single runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
• The trio of Peyton Graham (3 for 4, 2 RBIs, home run), Tanner Tredaway (3 for 5, two RBIs, two runs) and Blake Robertson (2 for 4, RBI triple in first inning). Jimmy Crooks added a triple and two RBIs, as the second through fifth hitters in the OU lineup accounted for nine of the team's 10 hits and all seven runs batted in.
• Braden Carmichael allowed a hit and struck out two over his 4.0 innings, retiring nine straight to end his outing. Carson Atwood worked around two hits in his 2.0 frames, Carter Campbell struck out three of the five batters he faced in 1.1 innings and Griffin Miller closed it out in the ninth.
• On Saturday vs. Texas, David Sandlin struck out seven batters over 6.0 shutout innings and Peyton Graham gave Oklahoma the lead with a two-run single in the seventh inning.
• Sandlin allowed just two hits and one walk in his outing. He and UT starter Tristan Stevens allowed a combined six hits while dueling through six scoreless innings. Sandlin retired the first 11 batters of the ballgame. Trevin Michael struck out six batters over the final three frames to earn the victory.
• With the tying run on second and a full count in the bottom of the ninth, Diego Muniz laid out to catch a diving line drive in left field to end the game. In the eighth inning, Kendall Pettis scored on an error after he stole third, and Nicklaus followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
• Chazz Martinez turned in a stellar start on Sunday, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning, and finishing with seven strikeouts and a run on four hits allowed in 5.2 innings.
• For the Texas series, Robertson led OU with a .500 batting average (5 for 10) with two walks and two runs scored. Graham hit .385 (5 for 13) with six RBIs, four stolen bases and three runs scored. Wallace Clark made two starts and hit .429 (3 for 7) with a pair of walks and two runs scored, and Horton hit .400 (4 for 10) with a triple, two walks and two runs scored. Pettis pinch ran once and stole two bases on his trip around.

Base Snatchers

• The Sooners have registered 62 stolen bases in 79 attempts through 27 games this season. OU surpassed its total from all of last year (46 steals) in the 18th game of this season. The last time Oklahoma completed a season with at least 62 steals was in 2013.
• Oklahoma ranks eighth nationally in stolen bases (62) and ninth in steals per game (2.3). Both figures rank second in the Big 12, only to West Virginia's 99 steals and average of 3.7 steals per game.
• Kendall Pettis, who led OU with seven steals in 2021, already has a team-high 12 stolen bases. Tanner Tredaway (six steals last year) and Peyton Graham each have 10 stolen bases, and Blake Robertson has seven steals so far this season. Cade Horton and catcher Jimmy Crooks each have five stolen bases.
• OU's most steals over the last 12 seasons was 98, in 2010. The Sooners registered 56 steals in 2016, 62 in 2013 and 79 steals in 2011.
• Oklahoma went off for 11 steals against Wichita State on Feb. 22. Three players — Graham, Pettis and Tredaway — each had three stolen bases in the game. Graham notched three steals again vs. Texas on April 2. It was the fourth time a single player has registered three steals in a single game this season.
• Prior to Feb. 22, no single Sooner had stolen three bases in a game since Erik Ross against Hartford in 2012. Oklahoma (3-1) finished the Wichita State game one steal shy of the school record of 12, set in 1937 against East Central (Okla.) University.
