OU Geared Up For Big 12 Tournament

NORMAN – The No. 2 Oklahoma women's tennis is in Fort Worth, Texas, this week for the 2022 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships. The No.1-seeded Sooners will take on No. 9-seeded K-State in the quarterfinals on Friday at noon CT.

OU will meet K-State for the second time this season, after their 4-1 victory at home on March 13.

Should the Sooners advance, they will face the winner between No. 4 seed Baylor No. 5 Kansas on Saturday at noon in the semifinals.

SOONER STORYLINES

REGULAR SEASON RECAP

• The Sooners completed the regular season at 25-1 overall and 9-0 against the Big 12. OU closed out the regular season undefeated in conference, the first time in program history.

• OU has had multiple "firsts" this season. They qualified for ITA National Indoors and advanced to the championship match, beat No. 1 Texas for the first time since 2003, beat Texas once again at home, dominated 11 top-25 teams, collected nine sweeps, and went from unranked to No. 2 in the nation, according to the ITA, for their highest ranking in program history. 

• The Sooners started the season on an 11 match winning streak, before falling to No. 2 UNC at ITA National Indoors. Since the loss, the team hasn't dropped a single match, entering the postseason on 14-match winning streak. 

• The team has consistently had three players in the ITA singles release since the beginning of the season, dating back to Feb. 9. Also, they have had two doubles pairs in the polls, their highest ranking coming from the No. 4 Corley Sisters.

• OU finished the season undefeated, 14-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

WHERE THEY RANK

• OU earned its highest ranking in school history, clocking in at No. 2 nationally on Feb. 16, according to the ITA, while also tying UNC at No. 1 in the USTA rankings on April 20. The Sooners have ranked in the top three in both ITA and USTA polls for 10-straight weeks.

• Four individuals and a doubles team are ranked in the most recent ITA release.

• In doubles, Carmen and Ivana Corley are No. 6. The duo is 21-3 overall and 8-2 against ranked opponents this season and have been ranked as high as No. 4 (March 23).

• Newcomer Layne Sleeth, ranked No. 10, has been a dominant force at the No. 1 position and holds a 15-3 record with eight wins over ranked opponents.

• Junior Carmen Corley currently sits at No. 50 nationally and has moved around the top three courts. She will enter the postseason with a 13-8 record, five of those wins against ranked players.

• No. 90 Ivana Corley is 11-7 on the year with a 7-3 mark on court three.

TOURNAMENT INFO

The 2022 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championship will be held on TCU's campus, the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Live streams and stats will be available for all matches throughout the tournament, with the championship match on Sunday being broadcasted on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Kris Budden and Craig Karseno will provide commentary during the broadcast.
