OU's Late Surge Falls Short vs. Lamar

April 15, 2022 | Baseball

NORMAN – Brett Squires and Tanner Tredaway each hit three-run home runs, but the Oklahoma baseball team fell to Lamar 14-11 Friday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Sooners (20-13) scored all 11 runs in the last four innings of the game, cutting into deficits of 7-0, 12-5 and 14-8. OU put up four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the seventh and eighth frames. The Cardinals (22-13) led 7-0 after a four-run fifth inning, then added five runs in the sixth and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Squires homered for the third time this week (he also hit two against Texas Tech on Tuesday). His three-run opposite-field blast was part of OU's four-run fifth inning that made the score 7-4. The Sooners added a run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh inning that made the score 13-8, before Tredaway's second homer of the season cut it to 14-11.

Tredaway finished the game 3 for 5 and scored two runs. Cade Horton went 3 for 4 and scored a run, and Squires had two hits to go with his three RBIs.

Blake Robertson brought home OU's fourth run of the fifth inning with an RBI groundout. Wallace Clark singled in Jimmy Crooks in the sixth inning. Crooks hit an RBI double in the seventh inning before he and Tredaway scored on wild pitches to bring OU within 13-8.

Reese Durand went 4 for 6 with three RBIs and Kirkland Banks tallied two hits and three RBIs for Lamar, which recorded 20 hits in the game. Jake Bennett (2-2) took the loss while Braxton Douthit (5-1) earned the win.

The Sooners conclude the weekend against Pacific at 11 a.m. Saturday. A pregame egg hunt will be held inside the gates of L. Dale Mitchell Park beginning at 10:15 a.m.
