Trevin Michael struck out 10 batters over 5.0 innings and
Cade Horton and
Sebastian Orduno each drove in two runs to lead the Oklahoma baseball team to an 8-7 win over Dallas Baptist Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Sooners (6-5) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and added an insurance run in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-6. The Patriots (6-6) went ahead in the third inning, then cut OU's lead to 7-4 in the sixth and scored single runs in the seventh and eighth frames.
Michael (1-0) struck out the final five batters he faced and allowed only one hit and an unearned run in his first start at OU.
Jaret Godman got the final four outs to earn his second save of the season. He struck out two batters in the ninth inning, including one to end the game with the bases loaded.
"I thought Trevin kept them off balance and made quality pitches when he had to make quality pitches," Oklahoma head coach
Skip Johnson said. "Trevin set the tone, and we were able to score some runs offensively and have a big inning."
A fielding error and a triple gave DBU a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The Sooners broke through in the fifth inning with seven runs on five hits and the aid of two walks and an error.
Diego Muniz led off the frame with a pinch-hit walk, and
Kendall Pettis drove him home with the first of three consecutive singles.
Peyton Graham knocked a single through the right side,
Jackson Nicklaus singled into right center and
Blake Robertson reached on an error that scored Graham, giving the Sooners a 3-1 lead.

Jimmy Crooks drove an RBI single to left field,
Cade Horton brought home Robertson and
Sebastian Orduno drove in two runs with a single that bounded over third base to make the score 7-1. OU sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning.
The Patriots cut Oklahoma's advantage to 7-5 in the sixth inning on a grand slam by George Specht, and made it 7-6 in the seventh inning on a single by Miguel Santos.
In the bottom of the seventh, Horton lined a long single just over the right fielder's head and off the wall, plating Robertson to make the score 8-6. DBU scored its final run in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout by Luke Heefner. Godman came in with runners on the corners and got a fly out to end the threat.
The Sooners continue their homestand this weekend, as they play host to UTSA for a three-game set at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
