NORMAN – The No. 3 Oklahoma women's tennis team starts Big 12 play with two home matchups this weekend. The Sooners will face No. 24 Kansas on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by No. 53 Kansas State on Sunday at noon.

MATCH DAY BASICS

The Sooners's 2022 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center will be open to the public and free of charge. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks.

Red OU tennis balls will be given out for our Big 12 Unity match against Kansas, while free pizza will be provided to the first 90 fans for the match against K-State.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners opened the match with a clinched doubles point over the Fighting Illini. Anchisa Chanta and Emma Staker claimed court three, 6-3, against Emily Casati and Kasia Treiber. Ivana and Carmen Corley secured the opening point for OU, taking the top court, 6-4, over Kate Duong and Megan Heuser.
 
In singles action, Anchisa Chanta finished first for the Sooners, taking court four, 6-2, 6-2, over Megan Heuser. Extending the leading, Alexandra Pisareva defeated Kasia Treiber, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot.
 
To clinch the match and send the Sooners to victory, freshman Emma Staker took down Kida Ferrari, 6-3, 6-1, on court six.
 
When play was halted, Ivana Corley had a 7-5, 0-2 advantage on court two, Carmen Corley was up 6-2, 2-3 on court three and Sleeth had a 6-2, 4-1 leg up on the top court.

SCOUTING KANSAS

The Jayhawks are headed into Friday's match with a 7-4 record and are ranked No. 24 in the nation with two ranked singles players: No. 59 Maria Titova and No. 124 Malkia Ngounoue.

TRACKING K-STATE

The Wildcats are currently 6-4 and are ranked No. 53 with no ranked singles or doubles players. The Sooners lead 6-1 against K-State in school-history matchups.

UP NEXT

The Sooners will stay in Norman for their match against Tulsa at noon on March 17 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
