Women's Hoops Set For Sunday Showdown With Robert Morris

December 09, 2022 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN  No. 23 Oklahoma (7-1) will put its four-game winning streak on the line at 12 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Robert Morris (6-3) at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. The game will be available via stream on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Pooh Williamson on the call. Brian Brinkley will call the action on the Sooner Radio Network live on 1520 KOKC in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma's annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place at halftime of the game, and fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to throw onto the court at halftime. All stuffed animals will be donated to the Mary Abbott Children's House.

THE STARTING FIVE

  • Sunday's matchup pits one of the nation's best offenses in Oklahoma vs. one of Division I's best perimeter defenses in RMU. The Sooners score 87.9 points per game and the team's 8.4 3-pointers per game rank in the top 35 nationally. The Colonials are stout defensively though, holding opponents to just 20.5% from behind the arc (3rd NCAA) and allowing just 53.7 PPG (26th NCAA).

  • Madi Williams enters Sunday afternoon 23 points shy of 2,000 career points. She would become the eighth Sooner all-time to eclipse the milestone and join teammate Taylor Robertson in the 2K club. The two would be the only teammate pair in the country to have 2,000 points and it would mark the first time in OU history that an Oklahoma team had a pair of 2K scorers.

  • For the second season in a row, Oklahoma is 7-1 after last year's team started 12-1. The Sooners remain a perfect 18-0 under Baranczyk in non-conference games vs. unranked opponents. Oklahoma has won all four games at Lloyd Noble Center this season and hasn't lost a regular season non-conference game at home since the 2020-21 season opener. The Sooners are 21-2 in regular season non-conference games in the last four seasons.

  • The Sooners are ranked in both the AP Poll (#23) and the WBCA Coaches Poll (#23), as well at garnering a No. 5 seed in the latest NCAA bracketology. Oklahoma returns over 90% of its scoring, rebounding and assists from last season's 25-win NCAA Tournament team.

  •  The Sooners ranked fourth in the NCAA last season with 18.9 assists per game and are in line to finish near the top five in 2022-23. Oklahoma has dished out 165 assists this season, good for 20.6 APG (5th NCAA).

SERIES HISTORY

Sunday afternoon will mark the first time Oklahoma and Robert Morris have met on the hardwood. In Baranczyk's 11-year career, she has never faced the Colonials. The Sooners are 4-0 all-time vs. teams from the Horizon League, boasting a 3-0 record vs. Milwaukee and then a 1-0 record vs. IUPUI, who OU defeated in the NCAA Tournament last season.

LAST TIME OUT

In a battle that pitted one of the nation's most prolific offenses vs. one of the best defensive teams in the country, it was a 15-2 run over the final 5:50 of regulation that sparked Oklahoma past Ole Miss, 69-59, in Norman on Sunday afternoon. The win marked Oklahoma's third of the season over a team that made last year's NCAA Tournament, as the Sooners (7-1) continue their march through non-conference play. Four Sooners scored in double figures, but Oklahoma won the game on the glass, where it outrebounded Ole Miss (7-2) 48-34 in the victory.

UP NEXT

The Sooners won't play during the week of final exams (12/12-16) but return to the floor on Dec. 18 when they host Southern at 2 p.m. inside Lloyd Noble Center. The game will mark the end of the four-game home stand and also serve as the final home game in the 2022 calendar year.
