NORMAN – Powered by a rebounding and 3-point shooting clinic, No. 23 Oklahoma cruised past Robert Morris, 94-65, Sunday afternoon at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
The Sooners (8-1, 0-0 Big 12) rode a dominant first quarter to a wire-to-wire victory, extending its winning streak to five games. Oklahoma outrebounded Robert Morris (6-4, 1-1 Horizon) 59-32 and buried 10 treys against the Colonials' top-10 3-point defense. A season-high six Sooners reached double figures in the win.
Oklahoma knocked down six 3-pointers in the first quarter as a season-high eight Sooners scored in the frame to gain a 33-13 advantage after 10 minutes. The Sooners' high-powered offense poured it on in the second quarter, outscoring the Colonials 27-15 in the quarter to take a 60-28 lead into the break. Oklahoma's 60 first-half points were the second-most of the season, trailing only a record-setting 67-point outburst vs. Oral Roberts in the season opener. Liz Scott took over in the third quarter, pouring in six points and pulling down three boards as the lead was extended to 37 points entering the fourth. Robert Morris cut into the OU lead as the game wound down, but the Sooners rolled to the 94-65, 29-point victory.
Madi Williams inched closer to 2,000 career points in the win by scoring 15 points, 13 of which came in the first half. The redshirt senior needs eight points to become the eighth Sooner all-time to eclipse 2,000. Liz Scott led the way with a season-high 16 points and matched a season-best nine rebounds, narrowly missing her third career double-double. Aubrey Joens went 3-of-4 from deep en route to 14 points with a pair of assists. Fellow sharpshooter Taylor Robertson buried three more treys to score 11 points and push her career 3-point total to 469, breaking the tie for fourth most in NCAA history. Ana Llanusa and Skylar Vann had matching nights, scoring 10 points with eight rebounds.
The Sooners outworked Robert Morris all game long, leading to a 59-32 advantage on the glass, good for the team's second-largest rebounding margin of the season. The Sooners shot 44% from the floor and held Robert Morris to just 34% shooting, as Oklahoma improved to 28-1 under Baranczyk when shooting a better field goal percentage than its opponent. All 11 Sooners that saw action scored, dished out at least one assist and pulled down at least two rebounds as the balanced effort powered the Sooner offense from the jump.
The Sooners will conclude their four-game home swing next Sunday, Dec. 18, when they host Southern at 2 p.m. in the final home game of the 2022 calendar year. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
