Big 12 Play Returns Home With Texas Tech and No. 1 Texas

November 08, 2022 | Volleyball

NORMAN – The conference slate continues for Oklahoma volleyball with its return to McCasland Field House for a pair of 6 p.m. CT conference matchups, including a rematch with Texas Tech on Wednesday, followed by round two of the Red River Rivalry against top-ranked Texas on Saturday.

"We said at the beginning, this group has an opportunity to be special, but first we have to commit to the process," head coach Lindsey Gray-Walton said. "In these last two weeks, we have seen a deeper investment and intention in the little things, and we've seen great results within those well stacked days."

OU is riding a two-match conference winning streak for the first time since October 2020, while holding a 6-4 home record. Saturday's match against the Longhorns will offer a free giveaway of OU volleyball coolers while supplies last.

For fans in attendance, doors at McCasland Field House open an hour before the match. Parking is available in the Field House lot on the east side of McCasland Field House or the Duck Pond lot on the corner of West Brooks Street and South Jenkins Avenue.

OU Athletics' clear bag policy will be in effect and walk-through metal detectors will be utilized. More information can be found here.

Season and single-match tickets are on sale for the 2022 season. Fans can purchase online through SoonerSports.com or by calling the OU ticket office at (405) 325-2424. Adults are $7 and youth/senior tickets are $5.

The Sooners lead the overall series with the Red Raiders 42-39, while having a 23-14 record at home. Last month, OU dropped a four-set match to the Red Raiders 3-1 in Lubbock. OU is looking for its first sweep against the Red Raiders since October 4, 2017. Under head coach Lindsey Gray-Walton, OU has a 5-4 record against Texas Tech.

"It's exciting to see the maturity within, truly becoming a player lead team," Gray-Walton noted. "Making the changes internally to yield the desired external results. Wednesday against Texas Tech, it's no different. We have a home Opportunity and we're ready to compete hard every moment."

The last time Oklahoma beat Texas was Oct. 25, 2014, for a 3-0 sweep in Austin. It was also the last time the Sooners defeated a ranked opponent on the road. OU is looking for its first home win against the Longhorns since Sept. 28, 2011, where they won in five sets, 3-2. The last time the Sooners defeated a ranked opponent inside McCasland was Sept. 27, 2014, against then-No. 23 Kansas in five sets, 3-2.

For both matches, live stats will be available through OU's StatBroadcast page and can be viewed at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday on SoonerVision on ESPN+. For more information on how to watch this week's home match, click here.

"The league of liberos is extremely talented, and Callie (Kemohah) continues to lead the way," Gray-Walton said. We've continued to challenge her range and communication level, truly giving her the green light, and she's playing really free right now. That type of consistency you can rely on allows for us to be in every match, which we have. Now we're fighting to finish, which is the next step in that learning to win 'process' for this team. "
