Sooners Continue Homestand, Host UNCW Tuesday

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's basketball hosts UNC Wilmington on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. for a midweek clash at Lloyd Noble Center.

The two programs will meet for the first time and both enter the game 1-1.

The Sooners earned their first victory of the season last Friday, beating Arkansas - Pine Bluff 66-28. Jalen Hill led the Sooners with a career-high 22 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Hill's 80% field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts) is only the 12th such performance since 2010. 

Tanner Groves wrangled a team-high 11 rebounds and four assists in the victory. Groves is ranked fifth in the nation for defensive rebounds per game (10.0). Milos Uzan tallied his first career double-digit point game, finishing with 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting. Grant Sherfield tallied 16 points and finished 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Monday's game will be televised on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Bryndon Manzer on the call.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS

  • UNC Wilmington opened the season with a 69-56 loss to No. 1 UNC on Monday, Nov. 7 and earned the 104-55 victory over Allen on Friday, Nov. 11. UNCW is coached by Takayo Siddle, who is in his third year as head coach and has compiled a 35-20 record.
  • The 2021-22 Seahawks compiled a 27-9 record and won the CBI crown, beating Middle Tennessee 96-90 in double overtime. UNCW returns two starters (Shykeim Phillips and Trazarien White) and seven letter winners from last season's squad. 
  • White averages a team-high 18.0 points per contest, shooting 12 of 26 from the floor (46.2%). White is tied with Amari Kelly and Victor Enoh with a team-best 5.5 boards per game. Phillips joins White as the only two Seahawks to average double-figure points, scoring 10.5 points per contest.

WE HAVE COMPANY

  • Jalen Hill led the Oklahoma offense with 22 points in a 66-58 victory over Arkansas - Pine Bluff. Hill finished 8 of 10 from the field (80%). Hill's 80% field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts) is only the 12th such game since 2010.  Hill's eight made field goals and 22 points were career highs.

RANKING SUMMARY

  • Oklahoma is ranked in the top 40 in three NCAA categories. OU is 23rd in fouls per game (12.5), 26th in defensive rebounds per game (32.5) and fourth in scoring defense (55.0).
  • Tanner Groves is fifth in the nation and first in the Big 12 in defensive rebounds per game (10.0). Groves in 39th nationally and second in the conference in blocks (5). Grant Sherfield is tied for the NCAA lead in free throw percentage (100.0%) and is 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
