MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Eric Gray ran for over 200 yards, but Oklahoma fell on a last-second field goal to West Virginia 23-20 in Morgantown on Saturday.
In a defensive fight, Oklahoma (5-5, 2-5 Big 12) led 20-13 after three quarters of play, but the Mountaineers outscored the Sooners 10-0 in the final frame to win. Mountaineer kicker Casey Legg pushed a 25-yard field goal attempt through the uprights as time expired to give WVU (4-6, 2-5) the victory.
Gray shined in the rainy conditions, running for 211 yards on 25 carries, a new high as a Sooner and the second largest output of his career behind a 246-yard day vs. Vanderbilt when he played at Tennessee in 2019. The senior running back scored a pair of touchdowns to secure his fourth multi-touchdown game of the season. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 190 yards, completing 17 of his 28 attempts with no touchdowns or interceptions in the loss. Marvin Mims led the receiving corps with 98 yards on the day.
Defensively, Danny Stutsman tallied a career-high 14 tackles and added his second career interception in addition to half of a sack. DaShaun White posted 11 tackles, with 1.5 tackles-for-loss in the effort. Defensive back Woodi Washington forced a fumble and registered seven tackles for the Sooners.
Oklahoma now looks ahead to a Bedlam battle next Saturday in Norman with Oklahoma State.
