OU XC Prepped for Regionals

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional, Nov. 11.

Last time out, the Sooners competed at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in Lubbock, Texas. The women captured fifth place in the 6k with a total of 145 points, making it their best finish since 2016. The men's squad recorded an eighth-place finish in the 8k, with sophomore Colin Caso pacing the Sooners at 25:21.2.

Friday's meet will be held at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The Sooners will be hitting the course with over 30 teams. OU will face off against several ranked opponents including No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Tulsa, and No. 27 Iowa State on the men's side, while the women's side will feature No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 30 Northwestern.

The women will run the 6k at 11 a.m. CT, while the men toe the line at 12 p.m. CT. The Sooners will feature eight women's runners and four on the men's squad.

"This is the highest regionally ranked both men and women have consistently been through the season in nearly a decade," said coach Hannah Fields. "The team as a whole has put in a strong season of work and performances, so it's going to be fun to watch them reap the results from that on Friday. We aren't taking a full men's team this year to give our guy's more time to build up for indoors. The four men racing are excited to compete, put themselves in the mix, and drop a fast 10k.

"This women's team is more motivated than ever going into Regionals and you can feel the energy and focus every day at practice. We know that we have more to show than what they've already accomplished this year. They are going in ranked 11th in one of the toughest regions in the country, but I know if everyone is on, then they could be set up for a really special day."
