NORMAN ā Three Oklahoma soccer student-athletes were named to Big 12 all-conference teams, the conference announced the end-of-year honors Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Sheridan Michel was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, while freshmen Hali Hartman and Alexis Washington were honored on the All-Freshman Team.
Michel has led a stout OU backline that has allowed more than two goals just four times in 19 games this season and shut out four opponents in 2022. The Ottawa, Ontario, product has three goals this season from her defender position, her first three collegiate goals, on just seven shots for a .571 shot on goal percentage. Also a team captain for the Sooners, Michel has been a reliable force for OU, starting 18 of OU's 19 games and going the full 90 minutes in 12 contests.
Hartman leads OU in both minutes played and starts as she is the only Sooner that has started all 19 games. The frosh has played over 1,600 minutes in her first-year campaign and scored one goal and made one assist from her defender position.
Washington has been instrumental to OU's offensive firepower in 2022, making nine assists on the year, tied for the conference lead. Her nine assists broke a program single-season record that dated back 17 years. Washington has made an assist in eight games this season and has one game with multiple assists. The San Antonio native has started 18 of OU's 19 games and put four shots on goal.Ā Additionally, Washington was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Freshman Top 100, voted as the No. 23 freshman in the country.
Michel is OU's first All-Big 12 team selection since Kaylee Dao was an All-Big 12 first-teamer in 2019. Hartman and Washington's All-Freshman honors mark the first freshman team honors since current junior Cailey England was named to the team in 2020.
The Sooners won their Big 12 Soccer Championship quarterfinal match on Sunday, taking down three-seed Texas Tech, 1-0. Oklahoma, the six-seed in the conference tourney, advances to meet No. 2 seed TCU on Thursday night in Round Rock, Texas, in the Big 12 semifinals. The match is set for a 7 p.m. CT start and can be seen on ESPN+. Tickets for the tournament are available via Big12sports.com/buytickets.
