NORMAN – The 23rd-ranked Oklahoma women's basketball team used a come-from-behind effort to upset No. 14 Baylor, 83-77, in Norman on Wednesday night, notching the program's first win over the Bears since 2015 and its first top-15 win since 2017.
"I am so proud of this basketball team," head coach
Jennie Baranczyk said after the win. "I love the balance that we have. I love the belief that we have and that we just kept playing. When we focus on ourselves and just play like that and share the ball - it becomes really, really fun. The scoreboard then takes care of itself."
The Sooners (14-2, 3-1) erased a trio of 10-point deficits to power past the Bears (10-4, 0-2), as
Skylar Vann stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks.
Taylor Robertson sunk all five of her 3-point attempts to become the Big 12 Conference's all-time 3-point shooter, passing Kansas State's Laurie Koehn, who sunk 392 career treys from 2001-05.
The Sooners faced Baylor advantages of 10-0, 31-21 and 59-49 before outscoring the Bears 31-18 over the final 13 minutes of play to finalize the victory. Wednesday night's win marked the Sooners' fourth victory when trailing by double digits this season, doing so vs. No. 16 BYU, Utah, Kansas and now No. 14 Baylor.
Oklahoma dominated the final frame, specifically the last 4:30 of regulation and didn't surrender a single made field goal to the Bears. Down 75-71 after a Queen Egbo layup,
Nevaeh Tot made a pair of free throws that sparked an 8-0 run to turn the tide in favor of the Sooners. More free throws from
Madi Williams and Tot put the game away for the Sooners.
As a team, Oklahoma shot 46% (28-of-61) but won the game behind the 3-point line, where it was 14-of-27 for a season-best 51.9%. The Sooners, who rank second nationally in assists per game at 20.0, tallied dimes on 23 of their 28 field goals in the win. Head coach
Jennie Baranczyk's team forced the Bears into 18 turnovers as the OU defense racked up 10 steals, led by Vann's four.
The Sooners, who ascended into the AP Top 25 for the first time in four years on Jan. 3, take on TCU (5-7, 1-2) at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
