CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Oklahoma soccer team dropped its first match of its East Coast road trip to NC State Thursday afternoon, 5-0.

The Sooners matched the Wolfpack in shots with nine in the game but couldn't capitalize as NC State put eight on goal to OU's three and held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.

"When I look at the game and how it went, it's hard to take that it was a 5-0 game," said head coach Mark Carr. "The difference today was the quality finishing of a very good NC State side and they deserve a lot of credit for that.

"That's what matters in the end. If we use the lessons from today, I know it will prepare us for the upcoming games down the line."

After the Sooners got two early looks courtesy of senior Bri Amos and junior Alexis Strickland, NC State scored a pair of goals before halftime (32', 38').

The Wolfpack put another pair of goals on the board early in the second half (54', 57') before the Sooners began to find some rhythm, getting five looks in the second 45. NC State scored its final goal in the 89th minute.

Amos led the Sooners with three shots in the contest, with Strickland, Jazzy Richards, Ella Pappas and Sakky Yoshida all getting one shot off. Amos, Strickland and Richards all put shots on goal for the Sooners.

Senior Nikki Panas made three saves before freshman Une Georgsen entered the match for the final 28 minutes.

Eight of OU's newcomers tallied double-digit minutes in the loss as Carr continues to lean on his 13 freshmen and three transfers for valuable minutes.

The Sooners return to the pitch Sunday in Charlottesville for an 11 a.m. CT match vs. No. 3 Virginia. The game can be seen on ACC Network via subscription.
