MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior
Paige Anderson set a new career high with 18 kills as the Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a four-set match (25-18, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22) to West Virginia inside the WVU Coliseum.
Anderson led the offensive attack as she made just five errors to hit .361 for the match.
Savannah Davison added 14 kills and
Megan Wilson chipped in seven in the loss.
Peyton Dunn paced the offense with 44 kills while also tapping in five kills.
Four Sooners recorded double-digit digs, led by
Callie Kemohah's 26.
Sam Anthony and
Olivia LittleJim each tallied 11 while
Aysia Harty notched 10.
The Sooners tallied 6.0 blocks with
Tyler Alcorn and
Sarah Sanders each getting in on four. To go with her 18 kills, Anderson also added 2.0 blocks.
West Virginia (12-1, 2-0 Big 12) outhit the Sooners (6-7, 0-2 Big 12) on a 63-56 kill advantage, while also leading in assists (52-48) digs (84-74) and blocks (9.0-6.0).
West Virginia took the opening frame, 25-22. The Mountaineers jumped out to an 18-12 lead before a 3-1 run for the Sooners made it 20-16. West Virginia used a 3-0 run to close out the set and take an early lead in the match.
OU responded in the second set with a 25-22 victory. The Sooners started the set on a 5-1 run and Anderson recorded back-to-back kills. West Virginia utilized a 4-0 run to take a lead at 12-10 but Sanders started a 4-1 Oklahoma run with a kill of her own. With set point on the line, the Mountaineers pulled within two, but a kill from Alcorn secured the set for OU.
The Mountaineers would take the lead in the third set with a 25-18 victory. With the match tied at 6-all after a Davison kill, West Virginia used a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. OU responded with a 4-1 run of its own to pull within one at 11-10. A 5-0 run from the Mountaineers put the set away for West Virginia.
The final set saw 13 ties and four lead changes as the Sooners fought to force a fifth set. The teams traded points consistently until Davison tied the set at 18-all to kick off a 3-1 scoring run from the Sooners for the lead. West Virginia pulled things even again at 22-22 and used a 5-0 run to close out the set, 25-22.
The Sooners will be back inside McCasland Field House Oct. 1-2 to host Kansas State for their Big 12 home opener.
