The Oklahoma baseball team officially opened fall ball on Tuesday with the first full squad practice of the year and an intrasquad scrimmage at L. Dale Mitchell Park.Ā
The Sooners, entering their fifth year under head coach
Skip Johnson, return 17 players to the team this year and welcomed 28 newcomers, including 13 freshmen and 13 junior college transfer and two transfers from four-year schools.

Leading the crop of newcomers is pitcher/outfielder Chazz Martinez, a 12th round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates this summer, who transferred from Orange Coast College. Joining him on the mound are transfer pitchers Trevin Michael (Lamar University), Jack Connelly (Motlow State CC), Carter Campbell (Western Oklahoma State), Zachery Carrell (UC Davis), Cade Johnson (Galveston College), Griffin Miller (Dyersburg State CC), Cooper Randall (Navarro College), David Sandlin (Eastern Oklahoma State), Brock Taylor (Grayson College) and Creed Watkins (Seminole State). Infielders Blake Robertson (Crowley College) and Mason Lowe (Hutchinson CC), outfielder Connelly and Sebastian Orduno (Golden West College) and catcher/outfielder Kade Fletcher (Paris JC) joined the Sooners this fall.
Among Oklahoma's freshman pitchers are Keegan Allen (Rogers, Ark.), Aaron Calhoun (Pearland, Texas), Luke Carrell (Davis, Calif.), Reese Collins (Bartow, Fla.), Luc Fladda (Chesterfield, Mo.), Brayden Luikart (St. Joseph, Mo.) and Colton Sundloff (Erda, Utah). Freshman infielders are Wallace Clark (Tulsa, Okla.), Brock Daniels (St. Louis, Mo.), Max McGwire (Irvine, Calif.), Jackson Nicklaus (Overland Park, Kan.) and Sundloff, and outfielders are Allen, Luikart, John Spikerman (Montgomery, Texas) and Mario Williams (Tampa, Fla.).
The Sooners will continue fall workouts through early November in preparation for the 2022 season.
