LINCOLN, Neb. – University of Oklahoma wrestler
Dom Demas won his bracket at the UWW U23 Nationals over the weekend to earn a spot on the Team USA roster at the UWW U23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, on Nov. 1-7.
The roster spot marks Demas' fifth time on the United States' world team, with all five appearances at different age groups.
The junior All-American outscored opponents 43-10 en route to a finals bout with Lawrence Saenz, who he dispatched with a decisive 10-0 tech fall. Demas, a 2019 and 2020 All-American for the Sooners, has had a dominant career and appeared in the finals at Junior and Senior Nationals earlier this spring.
Oklahoma wrestling, which has returned to prominence under
Lou Rosselli, also is home to
Josh Heindselman,
Jake Woodley and
Jake Boyd have all had success on the national level earning spots at world team trials with Heindselman and Woodley winning national championships at UWW Junior Nationals in November 2020.
The Sooners return to the mat as a team in the fall after a 2021 season that saw Oklahoma take home its first Big 12 Championship since 2002 and collect the highest finish at the NCAA Championship since Rosselli arrived.
