NORMAN —
Brady Manek, a senior forward on the 2020-21 Oklahoma men's basketball squad, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team for his combined performance on the court and in the classroom, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Friday.
Manek, who graduated in December with a 3.63 GPA in management and began OU's MBA program this semester, earned Oklahoma's seventh Academic All-America accolades. He received his second straight CoSIDA Academic All-District honor earlier this month. He was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team his sophomore and junior seasons.
This past season, Manek averaged 10.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting .375 from 3-point range and .767 from the free throw line for an OU team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished 16-11 overall and was ranked as high as No. 7 in the AP poll.
The Harrah, Okla., product started 111 of his 122 career games and made 235 3-pointers to rank fifth in program history. He is the only forward in program history to sink over 200 3-pointers in a career and, at 6-9, is the tallest Big 12 Conference player to ever convert 200 3-point attempts. Manek is the only player in program history to accumulate at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 3-pointers and 75 blocks, finishing with 1,459 points (14th most in school history), 681 boards, 235 3-pointers and 101 blocks.
Manek is the fifth Sooner to earn Academic All-America honors, and the first since Kevin Bookout's third-team selection in 2006. Scott Martin earned third-team honors in 1972, Alvan Adams was a first-team Academic All-American in 1974 and '75, and Terry Stotts earned second-team honors in 1979 and was a first-team honoree in 1980.
