Sooners Battle, Fall to #5 Baylor

NORMAN – The No. 20 Sooners dropped a hard-fought match to No. 5 Baylor Saturday, falling to the Bears 5-2.
Despite the loss, two OU players came away with singles wins as junior Mason Beiler defeated a top-10 opponent at the No. 2 line and Martinez battled through two tiebreakers to win court three.
The Sooners dropped the doubles point. On court three, Mark Mandlik and Max Stewart fell to Baylor's Charlie Broom and Finn Bass 6-1. Jake Van Emburgh and Welsh Hotard dropped to Nick Stachowiak and Matias Soto 6-3 at the No. 2 line. When play was halted, No. 28 Nathan Han and Alex Martinez trailed No. 18 Constantin Frantzen and Sen Lah 5-3 at the top spot.
In singles, Mason Beiler came away with a straight sets win of the highest-ranked player he's faced in his career. The junior downed No. 9 Soto 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 line.
OU's Martinez also came away with a win, battling through two tiebreakers to defeat Lah on court three. The Spanish Sooner prevailed 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3).
Elsewhere, Van Emburgh fell to No. 62 Adrian Boitan 6-4, 7-5 at the top spot. On court four, Han was defeated by Stachowiak 6-3, 6-4. Justin Schlageter battled the Bears' Spencer Furman to a second-set tiebreaker, but came up short, 6-1, 7-6 (5) on court six. Mandlik took fell to Baylor's Charlie Broom after a third set, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3.
