NORMAN — The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team opened its Big 12 home slate with a bang Thursday, run-ruling Kansas 14-0 in five innings behind five home runs and exceptional pitching from redshirt senior Shannon Saile.

Senior captain Lynnsie Elam blasted two home runs while freshman Tiare Jennings, sophomore Kinzie Hansen and senior Jocelyn Alo all hit solo shots to bring OU's NCAA-best season home run total to 89.

Saile was magnificent in the circle, collecting her eighth win of the season in shutout fashion with eight strikeouts, no runs, two hits and one walk.

Oklahoma started hot with eight runs on seven hits, including three home runs, in the first inning. Following a leadoff single from Jennings and an infield single from Jocelyn Alo, Hansen went deep with the first pitch she saw to put three OU runs on the board, her 15th home run of the season. Three batters later, Elam hit her first homer of the night on a two-run shot to left center. Back to the top of the order, Jennings ripped her 16th home run of the season to plate three more Sooner runs.

Saile retired the first eight batters she faced in the game before the Jayhawks got their first hit in the third inning on a single through the left side.

The game went scoreless through the second and third innings before OU plated six more runs on seven hits and an error in the fourth.

Leading off in the bottom of the fourth, Alo blasted her 22nd homer of the season and 76th of her career on a laser over the center field wall that hit the batter's eye. Four batters and two OU hits later, Elam hit her second home run of the game to left center to bring in three more runs. Oklahoma plated another run on a KU error before Jennings laced an RBI single to right field to bring in redshirt senior Nicole Mendes and conclude the scoring for the Sooners.

Sophomore left-hander Alanna Thiede closed the game in the circle for OU, retiring the final three KU batters in order at the top of the fifth to complete OU's 19th victory by run rule in 2021.

With the win, OU extends its NCAA-best win streak to 33 games and Big 12 regular season unbeaten streak to 47 contests.

Alo extended her program-record hit streak to 39 games with a 3-for-3, one home run performance, while Elam finished with five runs batted in for the first time of her career.

Jennings went 3-for-4 on the day with four RBIs and two runs scored while Hansen finished a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs batted in.

Seven Sooners recorded a hit in the game with five registering two or more.
