All-Big 12 Lead

Reaves and Harmon Earn All-Big 12 Honors

March 08, 2021 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma senior guard Austin Reaves was one of five players named to the All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced Monday. Sophomore guard De'Vion Harmon was also recognized as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Joined by Jared Butler (Baylor), Davion Mitchell (Baylor), Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State) and Derek Culver (West Virginia), Reaves earned First-Team honors with averages of 17.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists. He enters the postseason ranked second in the league in scoring, third in assists, 12th in rebounds and first in free throw percentage (87.1%).

During conference play, Reaves averaged 18.8 points (second in Big 12), 4.6 assists (second) and 5.8 rebounds (fifth among guards). He is the only player in Big 12 history to average at least 18.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists during league play.

Reaves is also on pace to become the first player in OU history to lead the Sooners in points, rebounds and assists since assists became recognized as an official NCAA statistic in 1983.
The senior is leading the Big 12 in free throws made (122), free throws attempted (144) and free throw percentage (87.1%). If the season ended today, Reaves' free throw rate would be the third best in program history behind only Hollis Price (92.9%) and Buddy Hield (88.0%).

Reaves is the 11th Sooner to earn All-Big 12 First Team recognition since the league was formed in 1996. He joins Corey Brewer, Eduardo Najera, Aaron McGhee, Hollis Price (twice), Taj Gray, Blake Griffin (twice), Romero Osby, Buddy Hield (twice), Trae Young and Kristian Doolittle.

One of the most improved players in the league, Harmon has nearly doubled his scoring average from last season by producing 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals and shooting 47.1% from the field. He scored 7.4 points per game and shot 36.4% as a freshman.

Harmon has scored in double figures in 12 of his last 13 games and boasts four games of at least 20 points this season.

The Sooners open postseason play on Wednesday when they face Iowa State in the first round of the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Mo. The matchup will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN inside of T-Mobile Center.
