NORMAN – Powered by a season best 59.7% (37-for-62) field goal percentage, the Oklahoma women's basketball team closed out the 2020-21 season with a win Sunday as the Sooners defeated Kansas State 90-81 at Lloyd Noble Center.
OU's (12-11, 9-8 Big 12) balanced scoring attack saw three OU players finish in double figures with
Gabby Gregory and
Taylor Robertson logging performances of 20-plus.
"For us to be able to play a full conference season is really unbelievable. It's just really special," said OU head coach
Sherri Coale.
"There are a lot of special people here at the University of Oklahoma who gave us a chance to have a platform and have a season … I think what our team has done has been pretty special – it's remarkable, really. I couldn't be more proud of them. They have no regrets and a lot in front of them. Everything we want to do is in front of us so we're excited about going to Kansas City and taking care of business there."
Gabby Gregory finished the game with a team-high 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting while
Taylor Robertson added 22 on 10 made field goals. Robertson hit just one three-pointer in the game and scored the remainder of her points in the paint.
Madi Williams chipped in 19 points for the Sooners.Three more players were just shy of double-digits as
Skylar Vann added nine and
Nevaeh Tot and
Tatum Veitenheimer each scored eight. Veitenheimer pulled down a career high nine rebounds in the contest to lead the Sooners in boards.
Four players dished four assists or more: Veitenheimer and Gregory had four apiece while Tot added five and Williams had six. With her five assists on the day, Tot has tallied 100 this season and needs just four more to tie Dionnah Jackson (2001-02) for fourth place on the OU freshman assists record list.
After a back-and-forth first half that saw 11 lead changes and nine ties, the Sooners scored 51 points in the second half with 32 of those in the fourth quarter to close out K-State. Ayoka Lee led all players in scoring and rebounding as she notched 33 points to go with 13 rebounds.
