FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

  • The Oklahoma women's basketball team heads to Kansas City, Mo., as the No. 6 seed for the 2021 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship inside Municipal Auditorium. The Sooners are 12-10 all-time inside Municipal Auditorium, where the tournament was last held in 2012.

  • OU owns a 25-19 all-time record in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and has won four Big 12 tournament titles (2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007).
  • No. 6 seed OU will face in-state rival and No. 3 seed Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals on Friday at 8:30 p.m. CT. Oklahoma State swept the 2020-21 series for the first time since 2018.

  • The Sooners are 5-5 all-time against the Cowgirls during the postseason. The teams have not met at the Big 12 Championship since 2016 in Oklahoma City, when OU prevailed 61-45 in the quarterfinals. The teams were slated to meet in the 2020 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship first round before the tournament was canceled due to concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Playing the majority of the season with just seven players – including four games with only six available - OU concluded the regular season at 12-11 overall and 9-9 against the Big 12. The Sooners won six of their last eight contests to end the year, with a 72-71 upset at No. 19/21 West Virginia on Feb. 13 and back-to-back road wins over TCU (76-60 on Feb. 24) and Texas (68-63 in overtime on Feb. 27).

OU AGAINST THE BIG 12

The Sooners finished the regular season at 9-9 against the Big 12 and sixth in the league standings. OU went 4-5 against the league at home and 5-5 against the road.

OU completed season sweeps of Kansas State and Texas Tech while splitting the series with Kansas, TCU, Texas, Iowa State and West Virginia. The Sooners were swept by just Baylor and Oklahoma State.

The Sooners came up strong in crunch time in league games; of OU's nine conference victories this season, six have come by six points or fewer – OU's 16-point win at TCU (Feb. 24) was good for the team's largest margin of victory in a Big 12 game in 2020-21.
