KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Oklahoma women's basketball team took Oklahoma State to the wire Friday night in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference quarterfinals, but fell to the Cowgirls 89-80 in overtime.
OU (12-12, 9-10 Big 12) led by as many as 15 points before No. 3 seed Oklahoma State used a fourth quarter surge to tie the game at 71-all at the end of regulation. The Cowgirls outscored OU 18-9 in overtime to pull away.
Oklahoma State's Ja'Mee Asberry led all players with 28 points. Taylor Robertson led the Sooners with 24 points on six made 3-pointers as she played all 45 minutes of the contest. Madi Williams stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points to go with eight rebounds and six steals.
Gabby Gregory chipped in 14 points with five rebounds and freshman Skylar Vann recorded her second career double-double as she scored 11 while pulling down 10 boards. Vann notched eight of her rebounds in the first half.
The sixth-seeded Sooners (12-12) led 66-56 on Williams' layup with 5:28 left in the fourth quarter. The Cowgirls went on an 8-0 run and Asberry later made 3s on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 71-70 with 2:08 left.
OSU's Natasha Mack made the second of two free throws to tie the game at 71 with 1:28 left and both teams missed on opportunities in the final minute. The Cowgirls pulled away with a 9-0 run in overtime and finished the game making 12 of their last 18 shots.
Mack had 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed 16 rebounds. Lauren Fields added 12 points, Kassidy De Lapp scored 11 and Taylen Collins had 10.
Oklahoma had 8-0 and 9-0 runs in the second quarter to lead by as many as 15 points and go into halftime with a 36-23 lead.
The Sooners, who are on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament, await their tournament fate on Monday.
