NORMAN - The Oklahoma volleyball team snapped a four-match losing skid with an impressive sweep over TCU Friday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas. The Sooners took the match 25-21, 25-15, 25-21.
OU outhit the Horned Frogs .391 to .233 on the day behind 46 kills. The Sooners held the advantage in assists (44-39), aces (5-1), digs (39-34) and blocks (6.0 to 3.0). Ā
Freshman
Guewe Diouf led the way with 23 kills on a .500 clip, while Sanaa Dotson continued her strong week with 13 at a .364 clip.
Olivia Curtis had an incredible day with a career-high 41 assists.
Defensively,
Keyton Kinley tallied 13 digs while Curtis added in seven.
Kelsey Carrington and
Tyler Alcorn each added three blocks as the Sooners totaled 6.0 for the match.
OU took set one, 25-21, behind 10 kills from Diouf and a .452 team hitting percentage. TCU jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but the Sooners clawed back to tie the match at 13-13. A kill from Dotson gave OU its first lead of the day, 14-13. The match went back-and-forth until the Sooners used an 8-4 run to clinch the first set.
The Sooners dominated set two, 25-15, and notched a .318 hitting percentage while holding TCU to .086. Despite TCU taking an early 2-1 lead, the Sooners responded with multiple runs to take a 15-8 lead. OU closed out the set with by taking advantage of back-to-back TCU errors.
OU hit .350 in the final set to clinch the match, 25-21. The decisive set went back-and-forth early as the teams traded points up to an 11-11 tie. OU pulled ahead at 14-13 and kept the lead throughout. Diouf's 23
rd kill of the night clinched the set and the match for the Sooners.
The Sooners will wrap up their three-match road swing with a Saturday evening matchup at No. 6 Baylor. The match will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ at 5 p.m.
