NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a tough 3-1 decision to TCU Friday night inside McCasland Field House. The Horned Frogs took the match, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13.
The Sooners fell to 4-13, 3-10 Big 12 on the year while TCU improved to 3-16, 2-12 Big 12.
TCU hit .280 for the match while holding OU to a .200 hitting percentage. The Sooners notched 45 kills to TCU's 51. OU trailed in digs, 48-42, and assists, 46-41. Both teams recorded 11.0 blocks on the night.
Sophomore Sanaa Dotson and freshman
Guewe Diouf led the way for the Sooners offensively, notching 13 and 14 kills, respectively. Both athletes recorded double-doubles as Dotson notched 12 digs and Diouf added 10. Senior
Sarah Maras added seven kills on a .375 clip.
Olivia Curtis was just two assists off her career high as she tallied 39 on the night.
Defensively, freshmen
Kelsey Carrington and
Tyler Alcorn notched five blocks each.
Aysia Harty tallied six blocks, followed by five from Curtis.
TCU won the first set, 25-20. The teams traded points early on as a block from Maras and Alcorn tied the match at 9-all. TCU used a run to take a 15-11 lead and held the lead for the remainder of the set.
OU fought back to take set two, 25-17. The Sooners rushed out to a huge 12-5 lead and later increased their lead to 19-11. Curtis clinched the set with a kill to tie the match at 1-all.
The Horned Frogs took an early lead in the third set before winning 25-15. In the final set, the Sooners couldn't overcome a 6-0 run by the Horned Frogs, ultimately dropping the fourth, 25-13.
The Sooners and Horned Frogs will close out the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside McCasland Field House.
