NORMAN – Sophomore Sanaá Dotson notched a career-high 21 kills and was one dig away from a double-double as the Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a four-set match to North Texas Thursday night.
Despite a strong showing from Dotson, the Sooners fell 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 21-25. OU outhit the Mean Green, .266-.175, but had a costly 14 service errors.
The Sooners led in kills (56-43), digs (53-44), assists (48-37) and blocks (12.0-8.0).
Dotson's career-high 21 kills led all players as she hit on a .224 clip. The sophomore also added nine digs and three blocks on the night.
Guewe Diouf added in 17 kills and two service aces on a .263 clip.
Olivia Curtis notched a career-high 27 assists with
Grace Talpash adding 16.
Defensively,
Keyton Kinley led the way with a match-best 18 digs. Talpash and
Aysia Harty each tallied six digs.
Kelsey Carrington got a hand on five of the Sooners' 12 blocks, while
Sarah Maras and
Tyler Alcorn each tallied four.
In set one, the Sooners raced out to a 11-0 lead and dominated the rest of the way. OU hit an incredible .455 in the opening frame while holding UNT to a -0.120 hitting percentage. Dotson led the way in the first set with six kills, while Maras and Alcorn each notched three blocks as the Sooners took set one, 25-15.
Set two saw OU once again jump out to an early lead. With the set tied at 18-all, UNT took their first lead of the match. The Sooners tied things up at 22-22, but UNT closed out the set, 25-23. Though the Sooners hit .316 in the third set, UNT led wire-to-wire to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
UNT clinched the match with a 25-21 win in set four. The Sooners kept it close early on with a Dotson kill making the score 9-8. UNT extended its lead to 20-15 and held the Sooners to just a .152 hitting percentage to take the match, 3-1.
The Sooners will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face conference foe TCU on Friday at 2 p.m. CT.
