NORMAN — The Oklahoma soccer team is set to reprise the Bedlam rivalry on Saturday when it travels to Stillwater for a showdown with No. 14 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. Saturday's match concludes a four-game road trip for the Sooners, who will return home following Bedlam for a pair of home matches.
"We're excited for the game. We have had an excellent week of training and our team continues to get better," said head coach Mark Carr. "This is my second Bedlam game, so I know a little more of what to expect. It's a game that's played with lots of emotion and intensity, which is the type of game you like to be part of as a coach, player or fan."
The Sooners seek the first win of the Carr era, after earning a pair of points in draws with Texas Tech and Iowa State.
The Sooners will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Cowgirls in the fall. Oklahoma played its Bedlam rival even in that match, but surrendered a 62nd-minute penalty that proved to be the difference.
Saturday's match will be played at Neal Patterson Stadium and will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ at 1 p.m.
The six Oklahoma freshmen have combined for 15 starts this season, led by Big 12 All-Freshman honoree Cailey England with 10 starts to her name. Freshman striker CeCe Cross leads the team with two goals on the season, tallying a brace in a draw with Iowa State on March 13.
Oklahoma State enters Saturday's contest ranked 14th by United Soccer Coaches and owns a seven-game winning streak. Led by head coach Colin Carmichael in his 16th year at the helm of the program, the Cowgirls finished third in the Big 12 last fall.
On the Sooners:
"For us, this is the next step in our process and our development journey as a team. We have to keep improving and getting better, and playing a team like OSU will be a great test for that."
On the Cowgirls:
"They're a really good team, full of talent, great players and athleticism. They do what they do and they do it very well. It'll be our job to try our best to stop them, but try and impose our personality and qualities on the game as well."
The Sooners return home for two-game home stand to close their season following Bedlam. OU will host Baylor on April 10th and Kansas State on April 17 at John Crain Field.
