March 23, 2021 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN -Ā Five members of the Oklahoma men's basketball team were named to a 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Tuesday, including four Sooners making the First Team.

Earning First Team recognition are seniors Brady Manek and Read Streller, sophomore Victor Iwuakor and redshirt freshman Anyang Garang. Senior Alondes Williams earned a spot on the Second Team.

In addition to being named to the First Team, Manek and Streller were the only two Big 12 players to be nominated with a GPA of 4.00 over the previous two semesters. Manek graduated in December from the Price College of Business with a management degree and has begun earning his MBA. Streller, majoring in Chemical Biosciences, scored in the 100th percentile on his MCAT exam and plans to attend medical school in the fall.

Manek has been an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree for each of the last three seasons (freshmen are not eligible).

First Team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
