Rowing Returns to Action with Scrimmage vs. K-State

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma rowing team returned to action on Saturday with a scrimmage against Kansas State on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City. The Sooners and Wildcats competed in two sessions, fielding four boats in the morning and three in the afternoon.
"It was great to get out and do some pieces against another Big 12 team, and we are grateful to Kansas State for making the trip," said head coach Leanne Crain. "I think we were able to identify some areas where we can improve in the coming weeks, but overall I was pleased with the performance of the team. It's been a long time since we've been able to put ourselves in a competitive environment with an outside team, and I think we learned a lot and gained some valuable race experience that will help us going forward as we enter the spring season."
The two teams competed in a series of short races ranging from one to four minutes. The multiple competitions allowed for substitutions to be made to give additional rowers experience in the First Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 boats.
The Sooners begin the regular season in two weeks when they host Kansas in a dual on the Oklahoma River. It will be Oklahoma's first official competition since November 2019.
