NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped its second match of the spring season to No. 2 Texas, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Austin.
Texas took the match 25-23, 25-10, 25-22. The Longhorns hit .300 while holding the Sooners to a .188 hitting percentage. The Sooners notched 31 kills to Texas' 41.
The Sooners trailed the Longhorns in digs, 33-27, and assists, 32-28. OU recorded eight blocks to the Longhorns seven.
Freshman
Guewe Diouf and sophomore Sanaa Dotson led the way for OU with 14 kills apiece. Sophomore
Olivia Curtis tallied 18 assists on the day to go with four digs. Sophomore
Grace Talpash chipped in seven assists.
Defensively, senior
Keyton Kinley led the way with eight digs to lead all players with freshman
Sam Anthony chipping in seven. Freshman
Kelsey Carrington notched five blocks to lead all players, with Curtis adding four.
Texas took set one, 25-23. The teams traded points early and we're tied at 10-10 early on in the set. The Longhorns would pull ahead 20-16 but kills from Diouf and Dotson and an ace from Anthony tied the match at 20-all. A Diouf kill made it 23-23, before Texas came up with the block for set point.
The Longhorns took set two, 25-10. In set three, the Sooners fought back from an early five-point deficit and used a Carrington block to tie the match at 14-14. The teams traded points to a 20-20 tie, before Texas utilized a 5-2 run to take the set, 25-22.
The Sooners will be back in action on Thursday, March 4, when they head to Denton, Texas, to face UNT.
